Regional Security System Sympathy Statement

On behalf of the Regional Security System (RSS), I extend sincere condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Guyana. The RSS is deeply saddened by the loss of life of the 20 children and the life-threatening injuries sustained after a fire enveloped the dormitory at the Mahdia Secondary School, Guyana. We also acknowledge the subsequent death of an additional person who succumbed to injuries sustained. We join with the Guyanese people and mourn the lives lost and the devastation caused by this heart-wrenching incident. The thoughts and prayers of the people of the RSS are with you at this time of inconceivable loss.

We wish the injured a speedy recovery and offer the support of the RSS in aiding the community to return to normalcy.

The RSS HQ pledges its support and resources to aid in the pursuit of any ensuing investigations, further clarity regarding the incident, and other possible outcomes in bringing comfort to the families, friends, and people of the Republic of Guyana. RSS HQ remains committed to the government and people of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and will continue to engage closely with authorities to determine how we can best provide support during this difficult time.
