UNEX 2024 Launched

Plans for UNEX 2024 are underway.
The activity, scheduled to take place in St. Lucia from April 3 – 14, 2024, was launched yesterday at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ports, Transport, Physical Development and Urban Renewal, in Castries, St. Lucia.
UNEX is an RSS activity designed to test the efficiency of security organisations within RSS Member States in responding to hazard events and crime and security operations. It also aims to strengthen regional and national response plans to transnational organised crime.
During the launch, UNEX Director, Lt. Col. Roberto Beltran, emphasised the relevance of the upcoming exercise and noted that the dynamics of criminal activities were evolving.
“The world is ever-changing and we have to be prepared for any such situation. As you can see across the globe, there is an increase in drug trafficking, so we as a region and RSS sub region must be prepared for these eventualities. So an exercise such as this is an excellent way for us to train to be able to execute our duties properly,” the RSS official stated.
Lt. Col. Beltran also noted that UNEX would bring additional skills and competencies to the security organisations of the RSS Member States.
“The programme is being funded by the 11th European Development Fund of the European Union and does not only entail the Unity Exercise, but also different training courses designed to counter terrorism and transnational organized crime,” he affirmed.
